Instrumentation and Calibration for Mining

Hinco Instruments supplies, calibrates and repairs the instruments that mine sites and processing plants rely on, from the electrical testers and gas detectors carried by maintenance crews to the pressure, flow and temperature instruments in the plant. We have been doing this for Western Australian industry for 70 years.

Instruments can come to our Canning Vale laboratory, or our technicians can calibrate them on site. We serve customers across Australia from our Perth, WA base.

Calibration for your site?

Send us your instrument list or asset register and we will quote calibration in our workshop, on site, or a mix of both.

What we supply for mine sites

The instruments we are most often asked for on mine sites and in processing plants.

Electrical test equipment

Multimeters, clamp meters, insulation and multifunction testers for site electricians, from Major Tech, HIOKI and Fluke.

Gas detection

Portable single-gas and multi-gas monitors for operators and confined-space entry, plus fixed detectors for plant areas.

Ventilation and airflow

Vane and thermal anemometers for ventilation surveys and airflow checks underground and in plant rooms.

Cap lamps and lighting

Mining cap lamps and portable lighting from Wisdom.

Pressure and process

Pressure gauges, transmitters and switches from DwyerOmega, WIKA and Druck for processing plants, hydraulics and pumping.

Flow and level

Electromagnetic flow meters from Euromag and level switches and sensors for slurry, process water and dewatering.

Instruments we supply for mining

Electrical testers, gas detectors, ventilation instruments and cap lamps for mine sites and processing plants.

Calibration, service and repair

We calibrate the instruments we sell and most other makes. Certificates record the as-found and as-left results for your audit trail.

On-site and field calibration

Our technicians bring the reference equipment to your site, so instruments stay where they are needed.

Gas detector calibration

Portable and fixed gas detectors calibrated against certified calibration gas.

Electrical test equipment calibration

Multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers and multifunction testers.

Anemometer calibration

Vane, mechanical, thermal and small cup anemometers, from 0 to 10 m/s.

Pressure gauge calibration

Gauges, transmitters, switches and process calibrators.

NATA-accredited temperature calibration

Thermometers, probes and indicators, calibrated in our NATA-accredited laboratory.

Why calibration matters on a mine site

A gas detector that reads low, an insulation tester that passes a faulty cable or a pressure gauge that has drifted all create risk that nobody sees until something goes wrong. Regular calibration, with a certificate for each instrument, is how a site shows its measuring equipment can be trusted.

Mine sites also run large fleets of portable instruments. Keeping track of due dates across hundreds of items is often the hard part, which is why we can remind you when instruments fall due.

Mining projects we have worked on

A selection of jobs we have done for WA mining and processing customers.

  • Tyre temperature logging on haul trucks, so overheating tyres are caught before they fail.
  • Opacity logging for stack emissions at a mineral processing plant.
  • Underground stope monitoring at a WA base metals mine.
  • Thermistor assemblies built for locomotive temperature monitoring on a Pilbara iron ore railway.
  • Crack detection data logging on heavy mining plant.
  • Weighing system work at a Pilbara iron ore mine.

Common questions from mine sites

How often should gas detectors on a mine site be calibrated?

Most manufacturers specify a bump test before each day’s use and a full calibration at least every six months, more often where detectors work in heat, dust or high gas exposure. Always follow the detector manual and your site procedure. See gas detector calibration.

Can you calibrate instruments at a remote mine site?

Fixed instruments and larger fleets can be calibrated on site in WA, and portable instruments can be sent to our Canning Vale workshop. Talk to us about access, timing and your shutdown schedule. See on-site calibration.

Do you supply intrinsically safe instruments?

Yes. Our range includes intrinsically safe pressure calibrators, level switches and temperature data loggers for hazardous areas. Tell us the area classification and certification you need and we will confirm the right model.

Good to know

On site or in the workshop

Send instruments to our Canning Vale workshop, or book a site visit for fixed instruments and larger fleets.

We can work to your shutdown and maintenance schedule where possible.

Buy, calibrate and repair in one place

We supply the instruments, calibrate them and repair them, so one supplier holds the whole history of each instrument.

New instruments can be calibrated before they leave our workshop.

Other industries we serve

We also work with oil and gas, water utilities and treatment, food and beverage, agriculture, universities and laboratories and government, plus battery energy storage systems and data centres. See all industries, or our full range of calibration and repair services.

Talk to us about your mine site

Tell us about your site and the instruments you need supplied or calibrated, and we will come back to you.
