Weather and Environmental Monitoring for Agriculture

Hinco Instruments supplies weather stations, environmental monitors and data loggers to farms, agricultural businesses and researchers. These tools help with spray decisions, livestock heat stress, fire weather and growing conditions.

We also calibrate the instruments we sell, so readings stay accurate season after season. We serve customers across Australia from our Perth, WA base.

What we supply for agriculture

Climate, weather and environmental measurement for the farm and the field.

Weather stations

KestrelMet cellular weather stations and Calypso ultrasonic wind instruments for on-farm weather data.

Handheld weather meters

Kestrel pocket weather meters for wind speed, Delta T and conditions before spraying.

Livestock heat stress

The Kestrel DROP D2 logs the temperature humidity index (THI) where your animals are.

Fire weather

Kestrel fire weather monitors for fire danger conditions.

Wireless and IoT monitoring

LoRaWAN and wireless sensors for remote tanks, sheds and paddocks.

Data loggers and environmental monitoring

Temperature, humidity and environmental loggers from Vaisala, DwyerOmega and others.

Instruments we supply for agriculture

Weather stations, data loggers, spraying and fire weather meters, and heat stress loggers we supply to WA farms.

Calibration, service and repair

Keep your environmental instruments reading true.

Environmental monitoring calibration

Humidity, temperature and weather instruments.

Anemometer calibration

Vane, mechanical, thermal and small cup anemometers, from 0 to 10 m/s.

NATA-accredited temperature calibration

Thermometers and probes, calibrated in our NATA-accredited laboratory.

Water quality and electrochemical sensor calibration

pH and conductivity meters used for water and irrigation checks.

Better data for better decisions

Spraying in the wrong conditions wastes chemical and risks drift. Heat stress costs production. Fire weather decides whether work can go ahead. All of these decisions rest on a reading from an instrument, and that instrument needs to be right.

We can help you choose equipment that suits your property and the data you need, and keep it calibrated.

Agriculture projects we have worked on

A selection of jobs we have done for farms, growers and agricultural agencies.

  • Weather stations for a state agriculture department network.
  • A weather station for an irrigation water supplier in the South West.
  • Data loggers mounted on centre pivot irrigators.
  • Irrigation monitoring work near Dandaragan.
  • Greenhouse climate monitoring.
  • Instrumentation for fertiliser and agricultural lime producers.

Common questions from farmers

What is Delta T and why does it matter for spraying?

Delta T is the difference between the dry bulb and wet bulb temperature, and it shows how fast spray droplets will evaporate. Spraying is generally recommended between a Delta T of 2 and 8. Above that, droplets shrink quickly and drift risk rises. Always check your product label. A Kestrel 3550AG reads Delta T on the spot.

Do I need a weather station or will a handheld meter do?

A handheld meter is fine for spot checks before spraying. A weather station makes sense when you need a continuous record, cover several paddocks, or want alerts sent to your phone.

How often should weather instruments be calibrated?

Twelve months suits most weather and environmental instruments. Bring it forward if an anemometer has been damaged or readings disagree with a nearby station. See environmental monitoring calibration.

Good to know

Help choosing

Not every farm needs a full weather station. Tell us what decisions you want to make and we will suggest the simplest setup that works.

Calibration and repairs

We calibrate the weather and environmental instruments we sell, with a certificate for each.

Where an instrument needs repair, we will tell you what is involved before doing the work.

Other industries we serve

We also work with mining, oil and gas, water utilities and treatment, food and beverage, universities and laboratories and government, plus battery energy storage systems and data centres. See all industries, or our full range of calibration and repair services.
