The Vaisala CL31 ceilometer uses laser backscatter profiling to measure cloud base height and vertical visibility continuously, detecting up to three cloud layers within a 7.6 km range, even in heavy precipitation. It is widely used at airports, heliports, mine sites and meteorological stations where reliable cloud data supports safe operations.
